It’s a common misconception that security guards and stewards are the same thing, but there’s a few key distinctions to make. The main one of these is that stewards do not need to have any formal qualifications, whereas security personnel will have been accredited and vetted by the SIA.
There’s also key differences in the duties they can administer. Because of the gulf in the qualifications they have, SIA-licenced guards can complete a much wider range of responsibilities, and take on a more authoritative role than stewards can.
All of the stewards that ProFM Group provide will have undergone an extensive and rigorous training procedure, alongside full accreditation from the Security Industry Authority (SIA). We also vet every member of our stewarding teams for a minimum of 5 years before we assign them to any project.
While as a general rule of thumb we recommend 1 steward per 100 guests, this is entirely dependent on the type of event you’re running, whether alcohol will be served or not, and the environment you’re using to run your event.
